Sony DSLR releases imminent
May 9th, 2009 - 10:51:41 AM:
It's obvious that new Sony releases are imminent. The rumors for these releases have been around quite some time, and Sony has already previewed new lenses during PMA 2009. In the last few days, there have been several leaks on Sony web pages in the UK, Canada and Russia.
New DSLRs, lenses, flash |
Judging from these you can conclude that the following new camera products will be released soon:
- DSLR-A230 (α230)
- DSLR-A330 (α330)
- DSLR-A380 (α380)
These appear to be only minor upgrades to the α200, α300 and α350, respectively. Changes seem to concentrate on the user interface.
In addition, the following lenses can be expected:
- DT 18-55/3.5-5.6, the new standard kit lens
- DT 55-200/4-5.6, an update of the existing 55-200, the tele kit lens
- DT 50/1.8
- DT 30/2.8 Macro
It's not clear if the previewed 28-75/2.8 will also be released.
Since all these have an AF/MF switch, they appear to have an in-lens AF motor. It's not yet clear if this will be a SSM ring motor or some other implementation. The cameras, however, also feature a AF/MF switch, so the in-body AF motor is retained, making the cameras compatible with existing non-SSM lenses.
Last, but not least, there also will be a new low-power flash unit.
The current rumors point to an official announcement at May 18th. Check back this place to find the full details of these new products.
