Gallery Sierra Nevada
This is a region of many names: “Sierra Nevada”, “High Sierra” or just “Sierra”. What's meant is the mountain range in California, connecting to the south end of the Cascade Range, starting at about Lake Tahoe, and stretching in a south-east direction towards Bakersfield. This part of California does not at all fit the California cliché of summer, sun and beach. It's rough wilderness, including the highest mountains of the lower states of the U. S.. There are hardly any roads crossing the Sierra. South of Yosemite there even is not a single road across the Sierra for 120 miles. The Sierra Nevada sharply separates the Pacific coast region from the deserts of Nevada and Arizona.
Three of the most impressing (and unfortunately also most visited) national parks are located in this mountain range: Yosemite, Kings Canyon and Sequoia. But as always you only have to leave the main roads to enjoy the tranquility of nature.
