These expansion cards add functionality to a number of film cameras (see camera table, “cards” is mentioned in some columns). None of these cards is required for a camera, and none of these cards will store images. Image recording and storage is still on film!

The problem is, I don't know where to get old Minolta equipment, either. Even if I did, the availability would change on a daily basis. The information would be either permanently out of date, or I would be forced to do permanent market research. I don't want to do this.

In holland we have "Marktplaats" it is comparable with e-bay. If you search well there is a lot of old minolta equipment to find. Just bought the "beercan" 70-210mm f4 and the 28-135mm f4-4.5 for reasonble proces. kind regards ruud

When the first AF Minolta body was released in 1985, Minolta supplied two MD/AF 2x converters - Minolta M/A converter S ( < 300 mm ) and Minolta M/A converter L ( > 300 mm ), which enabled the Minolta AF 7000 to utilize MC/MD lenses. Any chance of having them listed in Accessories?

Minolta screw-in polarizers are bevelled to avoid vignetting. Eg the 55mm filter has a 55mm rear diameter and a 68mm front diameter.

I do not have detailed information about some of these cards. But none of these store images. How could they? All of the compatible cameras are film cameras.

I just bought a Minolta Polarizer in a 52mm size. Yes - 52 as in Nikon and not 55. I do not know if it is circular yet. The glass is about 55 across and the rotating ring is like a rubber lens hood with circular groves along the flared surround which stahds out about 5mm from the glass. It is beautifully made in Japan. It came in a Minolta round case. Why did Minolta make a 52 - for Nikon owners? I know Minolta used 49, 55, 62... but never saw a 52.

I think this filter was made for some Minolta SR mount lenses, and it's a linear polarizer.

The camera uses a 2CR5 battery. It should be still available. The camera can not store images on a card. It's still a film camera. The card slot is for expansion cards (see above).

The eyepiece cup of the A900 is the FDA-EP4AM, available from Sony, but I doubt it will fit (well).

Filters for the 500 mm reflex lens are compatible with other lenses using drop-in filters - and vice versa. I have used the polariser for the 300/2.8 on my 500 mm reflex - and the ND4 for the reflex on my 300 mm without a problem.

Other users have told me otherwise, that the filters are not compatible. Not having a 500/8, I can't tell who's right.

Did those other users explain what makes the filters incompatible? Have they even tried to switch filters between a 500 mm reflex and a 300 mm f:2.8? I have. I think they may deduce from the smaller diameter that there will be heavy vignetting, but there isn't. I know, because I've tried. In any case, the filters do fit perfectly. I know, because I've tried.

I think the smaller diameter of the 500/8 filters was the main reason (I'm not at home at the moment, can't check) to not use them in APO lenses. I'm also not sure if the polarizer fits the 500/8, because the holder is a bit bigger.

Did you make a formal check how much vignetting and CA changes when using the small filters in an APO lens? There could also be an influence on AF performance, did you check that?

One of the first things I did, after I brought home the 300 mm f:2.8, was to test the polariser on the 500 mm reflex - and here are two pictures showing that it works: http://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/41940383

Well, if the polarizer fits mechanically in the 500/8, then it also works optically, because it has a larger diameter. Did you also try the clear filter of the 500/8 in the 300/2.8?

I hadn't tested the clear filter, but now I have, and it does work, but with certain limitations. With the lens fully open, vignetting is very strong, but at f:5.6 it's negligible - I didn't test at f:4, but it's probably somewhere in-between.

I have uploaded resized copies of the images (they had to be < 20 Mpix) to this address: http://test.klipsen.dk - odd numbered file names were shot with the original filter, even numbered file names with that of the 500 mm mirror lens.

Sony makes (or made) a nice holder for lens caps that attaches to a camera strap. The pouch has a compartment that can hold a compact flash (or smaller) memory card. The Sony number is: LCS-LC1AM. See eBay item #151325400733 for a photo of the holder, and #281370427768 for a photo of the packaged item. Cheers

Anders, the best I have found is the series of Hove Foto books covering the 7000i, 7xi and 700si. These give a reasonable explanation of the function and use of the expansion cards. Sorry this is a bit late!
